Coatesville Area Public Library

CAPL uses the Seed-And-Scale Scale Match Funding to expand their renowned children’s reading programs, with a focus on closing the literacy gap among preschoolers and elementary students in the Greater Coatesville area. Despite the success of CAPL’s current programs, CASD PSSA test scores highlight a pressing need for additional instructional support. Both CASD educators and community groups are advocating for the expansion of CAPL’s initiatives to reach a broader audience. 

These reading programs offer crucial opportunities for children to develop their imagination, curiosity, vocabulary, and social skills in a nurturing environment, all while fostering a love of reading. Understanding the economic hardships faced by many families in Coatesville, which often lead to stress and anxiety that can impact children’s educational progress, CAPL aims to address these challenges by: 

• Expanding Family Story Time sessions and creating new programs at local preschools to enhance cognitive and social development. 
• Growing the school outreach program to increase participation in CASD classrooms and schools. 
• Launching a Kindergarten Summer Reading Camp in collaboration with E. Fallowfield Elementary School, targeting incoming Kindergarten and First-grade students to strengthen their reading skills. 

Through these initiatives, CAPL seeks to make a significant impact on the educational outcomes and prospects of children in Coatesville
