Empowering Change Through Community Support
Family Service of Chester County
Discover how our Seed-And-Scale Grantee is transforming Greater Coatesville and making strides towards a healthier future for all.

Background
Through Seed-And-Scale Match Funding, the STD Prevention Outreach Program tackles the rising rates of STDs in Chester County, with a particular focus on African American individuals aged 15-65 in the City of Coatesville. By utilizing the cultural significance of barbershops and beauty salons within the African American community, the program aims to transform these venues into key centers for education, resources, and support on STD prevention.
In addition to raising awareness, the program seeks to create employment opportunities for community members with local cultural knowledge. Its goals include reducing STD incidence, increasing awareness of prevention methods and treatment options, and establishing sustainable community resource hubs in local establishments.
Program activities involve distributing condoms, hosting informational sessions on STD prevention, testing, and treatment, and dispelling common misconceptions. The program’s design allows it to be adapted for different populations by addressing specific issues and leveraging culturally relevant meeting points.
$15,000 in donations will be matched DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR by The Alliance for Health Equity.
