Empowering Change Through Community Support
Meals on Wheels of Chester County
Discover how our Seed-And-Scale Grantee is transforming Greater Coatesville and making strides towards a healthier future for all.

Background
Meals on Wheels of Chester County supports residents in Coatesville, one of the county’s most economically disadvantaged areas, through its Coatesville and Pony Express chapters. These chapters, funded by the Seed-And-Scale Match Fund, operate multiple routes, delivering well-balanced and affordable meals Monday through Friday at lunchtime to adults who are physically or mentally unable to cook for themselves and who are often alone during the day.
While clients are encouraged to contribute towards the meal cost, no one is turned away due to financial constraints. Last year, client contributions covered only 42% of the meal expenses, but in the Coatesville area, client contributions only covered 4% of the food cost. The organization relies heavily on a dedicated network of volunteers—including drivers, dietitians, and coordinators—whose friendly interactions are crucial, as they may be the only visitors some seniors receive each day.
Research indicates that home-delivered meals provide significant health and psychological benefits beyond basic nutrition. They help reduce hospital stays and promote longevity, all while being more cost-effective than hospitalization or nursing home care.
$5,000 in donations will be matched DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR by The Alliance for Health Equity.
