The Seed-And-Scale Match Fund enhances North Stars homelessness prevention and self-sufficiency program, specifically designed to assist working single parents, particularly those classified as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) by the United Way. These families, though employed, often struggle to cover essential needs such as housing, transportation, healthcare, food, and childcare. 

The program aims to bridge the gap between their income and necessary expenses by providing monthly rental assistance directly to landlords and offering ongoing case management. The goal is to guide parents toward financial stability and self-sufficiency, focusing on debt reduction, savings growth, credit score improvement, and homeownership. Additional support includes access to an office pantry, funding for children’s enrichment programs, and gas and grocery gift cards to address diverse needs. 

Since the pandemic began, North Star has supported an average of 22.5 families annually, with many residing in Coatesville. The proposed Seed-And-Scale Match Innovation Grant will help extend support to six additional families, with the initial $15,000 grant funding two of these families. North Star plans to leverage additional funds from supporters to achieve a 2-to-1 match, allowing them to assist the remaining four families. Program eligibility includes full-time employment, residency in Chester County with children, and living in non-subsidized housing.  

The Seed-And-Scale funding ensures continued rental assistance and case management for these hardworking single-parent families. 

$10,000 in donations will be matched DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR by The Alliance for Health Equity.
