Are you interested in listening to (and voting on) impactful ideas and solutions proposed by residents of the Greater Coatesville area? If so, join The Alliance for Health Equity as we kick-off Let’s Talk: Community-Designed Solutions 2.0 (a.k.a the CDS Challenge) on Thursday, November 16, 2023!

The CDS Challenge invests in community-created solutions by empowering Coatesville citizens in the places where they live, lifting their voices, and building their power to shape the services and programs that affect them. This session will answer the question: What is your idea(s) on giving Greater Coatesville families and residents what’s necessary to live a healthy life?

Building Momentum Together

The first Let’s Talk series, developed after the evaluation of Community Voice 1.0 and the Coatesville Black Media Renaissance Project, gathered over 28 community solutions and distributed $25,000 in awards. $70,000 in additional grants were distributed to selected solutions chosen by The Alliance’s grantmaking committee. Recognizing that individuals are experts in their own experiences, 100+ community members joined us for a series of lunch meetings in November 2022. Questions for the CDS Challenge were created based on involvement and feedback from these meetings.

Continuing Positive Community-Driven Change

As mentioned earlier, we believe empowering people in the places where they live leads to community-driven solutions. By amplifying community voices to drive locally determined solutions, this strategy aims to influence systemic racism and discriminatory practices by influencing inequitable policies, systems, and structures that improve health and well-being for all. Here are the goals of the CDS Challenge:

  • Goal One – Build on community capacity and leadership to increase personal responsibility, voice, and skills that influence systems, policies, and distribution of community resources
  • Goal Two – Stimulate philanthropic, government, and individuals to co-invest in public-private partnerships to advance community health

Guest Attendees at the CDS Challenge

We invite you to cheer on and supply feedback to Coatesville community members who are presenting their solution on the health and wellness status of Greater Coatesville! During the session, you will listen to seven (7) community-created solutions and vote for the best CDS presentations to receive one $2,500 award, one $1,000 award, and three $500 awards. We will also have a table of health and wellness resources available to you. Free food from Willy’s Family Restaurant will be provided. The Alliance for Health Equity (formerly Brandywine Health Foundation) is a philanthropic organization striving to advance a more equitable, resilient and healthy community for all residents of the Greater Coatesville area. We pursue our mission by providing grants and scholarships to local nonprofits and students that address health and economic disparities and social justice. We also build partnership programs and give voice to those often left out of community solution building to improve the overall health of their communities. 100% of contributions go directly to those in need.
