Empowering Coatesville’s Future: A Year of Growth for Coatesville Kids to College

At Educational Equity Alliance, our mission is simple but powerful: to decrease disparities in education and create pathways for children and families to thrive. Through our flagship program, Coatesville Kids to College (CKC), we provide a pipeline of support for students from preschool through high school—offering reduced-cost preschool, free afterschool and summer camps, tutoring, and enrichment opportunities that nurture the whole child academically, emotionally, and spiritually. But our work goes far beyond academics. We walk alongside families, meeting their needs with food assistance, prevention, childcare, and connections to trusted local resources. Because when families are supported, children can flourish.

Expanding Our Pipeline: Welcoming Kindergarten Students Back

One of our key goals this year was to close the long-standing gap in our pipeline by reopening programming for kindergarteners. For the past three years, the need was so great that our youngest learners had to be placed on hold. Thanks to the Alliance for Health Equity’s (AHE) Seed-And-Scale Match Fund, we were finally able to bring them back.

With this support, six new kindergarten students enrolled in our afterschool program, receiving tutoring, enrichment, and social-emotional support during their very first year of traditional schooling. Families gained reliable childcare, older siblings were relieved of “parentified” roles, and students dove into hands-on enrichment in science, art, and early literacy—building the foundation they’ll carry through their entire educational journey. The Power of Partnerships

The Seed-And-Scale Match Fund didn’t just double donations, it multiplied our impact. This support helped us build stronger partnerships and think strategically about resources beyond our current capacity. With Chester County Food Bank, students learned about nutrition, cooking, and food access. Local volunteers and the Believe and Achieve Foundation provided free enrichment programming.

• The Coatesville Public Library had volunteers who offered weekly literacy enrichment, sparking a love of reading.
• Through past and current collaborations supported by AHE, organizations like Child Guidance and now Strengthening Families, have and will continue to work alongside of us to find new ways to support parents, especially through culturally sensitive and informed care for our Hispanic families. These connections ensure our students and families don’t just succeed inside our programs but have a network of support throughout the community.

Adapting and Growing Together

This year brought challenges, but also creativity and resilience. Shifting from a four-day program week to three days allowed us to, maintain strong academic accountability, encourage volunteers to lead enrichment opportunities, empower older students to mentor and model leadership for younger participants. In total, more than 50 students engaged in CKC programming this year, each receiving the academic support, enrichment, and family-centered resources needed to thrive.

Looking Ahead: Building Stability and Awareness

As we settle into our new facility, our focus is on stabilizing and strengthening our programs while continuing to make early learning spaces accessible for families. Long term, we want to ensure CKC is not just a hidden gem but a well-known, trusted resource throughout Coatesville and Chester County. That’s why we’re actively working to rebuild, rebrand, and expand our impact and we need your help. Our Virtual Back to School Fundraiser is live now, with a goal of raising $30,000 to cover a significant portion of our fall operations. On November 1st, we’ll host our annual Cider Run 5K at Highland Orchards, a chance for the community to come together in support of Coatesville families.

At Coatesville Kids to College, we believe education is a lifelong journey—and one that no child or family should walk alone. With the support of AHE, our partners, donors, and volunteers, we are building a pipeline of promise: one that empowers children academically, emotionally, and spiritually while equipping families with the tools they need to thrive.
