The Alliance for Health Equity is excited to introduce Briana Villagrana, our new Community Health Worker for the Food As Medicine (FAM) program. The FAM program is a new initiative by The Alliance for Health Equity that provides pregnant individuals and new families with home-delivered, nutritious foods prescribed based on their specific health needs. With a strong background in community health, advocacy, and even a few unexpected creative talents, Briana is already making a meaningful impact in Greater Coatesville.
Alyssa Kotzmann, Marketing and Communications Director, sat down with Briana Villagrana to learn more about her new role at AHE and the valuable experience she brings to the team. Let’s dive into the conversation!
How long have you worked in the nonprofit world?
I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector since January 2020, bringing over five years of experience supporting underserved communities.
What relevant/unique experience do you bring to AHE?
I bring a strong background in case management and community health, having managed a team of five Community Health Workers at Maternal and Child Health Consortium (MCHC) who conducted home visits for pregnant and postpartum individuals. I’ve also facilitated domestic violence trainings to healthcare providers across Chester County, helping them better support patients experiencing abuse. My military service in the Marine Corps has shaped me into a detail-oriented, quick thinker who thrives in high-pressure situations.
What are you looking to achieve for Greater Coatesville?
I’m committed to creating a lasting, positive impact in Greater Coatesville by advocating for individuals and families and empowering them to become self-sufficient. My goal is to be a strong bridge between the communities we serve and the institutions that support them, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
What is something unique and interesting about you?
I am a Marine Corps Veteran, a proud mom of two, and I had the amazing opportunity to live in Japan for two years. I’m also a balloon artist—I create balloon art and decor for events, which allows me to express my creativity. In addition, I enjoy gardening and have an indoor plant collection with over 25 thriving plants!
Briana’s story is a powerful example of how personal drive, experience, and community-centered values come together to support health equity in action. We’re thrilled to have her on the team and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make through the Food As Medicine program and beyond.
